Come on
this tour to visit the last remaining businesses that still fashion their wares
by hand, a rarity in Singapore indeed!
Your first
stop is a business that stocks an amazing array of paper offerings that are
burnt for the Gods, Ancestors and Ghosts. Be awed by the big beautiful robes,
houses and colourful horses, all made of paper.
Heard of
the interesting hobby of Bird Singing? Come & see for yourself and be serenaded by these
wonderful ‘Song Birds’, right in the HBD heartlands of Ang Mo Kio, where one of
the largest of the Bird Singing corners in Singapore is located. This is where
the birds get to train their vocal chords and you can chat with the ‘uncles’
who love their birds. You will visit a bird cage maker who is also a ‘bird
sitter’!
Have you
watched Lion Dances and marvelled at the colourful Lion Heads? You are
privileged to meet the last remaining craftsman who makes the Lion Heads from
his HDB home. You can even order one of his beautifully crafted Lion Heads as a
collector’s item.
Finally,
we will learn about those giant incense sticks with their colourful decorations
seen at the temples. Hear from the ‘horse’s mouth’ about how they are made and
you can have fun by having a go at using the raw materials for the incense to
fashion your own creation. This tour will end at Newton Food Centre.

AWA REGISTRATION POLICIES:
• Bookings open on the first working day of the month.
• You must register in advance to attend an event.
• If an event is full, please join the waitlist, if one has been created.
• The event ends at approximately the listed time.
• Only adults over 18 years may attend AWA tours unless otherwise designated.
• Family members and out of town guests pay AWA member price, other Singapore residents pay the guest price.
AWA CANCELLATION POLICIES:
• If the event is marked non-refundable, then no refund can be given. You can offer your space to other members via the AWA Facebook Member Community and notify the office of any change.
• All other AWA event fees include a $5 non-refundable cancellation fee. This cannot be returned under any circumstances.
• If an event is not marked as non-refundable, you may cancel your attendance by emailing the event coordinator AND office@awasingapore.org up to 4 working days prior to the event.
• If you paid online, we will refund you via Paypal within 30 days. If you paid by any other method you will be asked for your preferred refund method, cash or check.
• You may transfer your attendance to another AWA member or to another identical event (e.g. Mahjong game to Mahjong game) no less than 4 working days prior to the event, by emailing office@awasingapore.org with the new attendee’s name.
• Cancellations received within 4 working days of the event will not be refunded.
