Join us in
volunteering with Willing Hearts, a charity organization that AWA has
been partnering with for many years. Willing Hearts operates a soup
kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes over 9,000 meals to needy
families every single day of the year. During this covid-19 period, some extra precautions are taken upon entering
(temperature taking, health declaration, social distancing, and you must
wear a mask).
Children older than 10 are allowed but must be supervised 1:1 by an adult volunteer at all times.
What to expect:
From chopping vegetables, marinating chicken thigh, and making
dumplings, to packing meals, washing dishes, and loading delivery
trucks, no two visits will be the same. You never know what roles you
might be assigned, and the menu always changes!
Dress code & what to bring:
For your own safety and hygiene purposes, please wear comfortable
closed-toe shoes (i.e., sneakers, tennis shoes, etc.). No tank tops or
very short shorts. Don't wear anything you won't mind getting dirty.
Your fingernails might also get dirty so try to keep your nails short
with no nail polish.
Bring a water
bottle, and a food container (tupperware) if you plan on having lunch
there, as they do provide food for volunteers. Don't bring too much
stuff with you because there's often no place to put it. Gloves, aprons,
and hairnets (if required for your role) are provided.
Note on allergens:
This kitchen handles nut products, seafood, dairy and other common
allergens. If you have dietary allergies or restrictions, please
carefully consider participating in this volunteer activity and let the
organizer know what you cannot handle.
Please note: social distancing
regulations at this activity are maintained by the charity in question.
All participants must adhere strictly to the social distancing
guidelines guidance given by the venue at all times.
