Kilometres of Friendship and Fun
Running is more than a sport—it’s a celebration of life, movement, and friendship. It connects us, whether we’re soaring through the highs or trudging through the lows. Some days, running feels easy; other days, it’s a struggle. But sharing these moments—the triumphs and the challenges—strengthens our bonds.
We cheer each other on, from conquering new distances to simply showing up. Every step is a victory, and every runner deserves celebration.
This year, the AWA Running Group has plenty to celebrate. Several women ran marathons: Laura Binns and Bernie Tretta (London), Heather Hyink (Sydney), Dora Branyon (Perth), Keri and Kelsi Matwick (Yokohama), Joanna Wang (New York City), and Prassana Ravuri (Singapore). Oksana Wade earned third place in a challenging trail half marathon in Germany.
This October, several members of the group traveled to Perth to run a race and enjoyed touring afterward.
We recently gathered for a farewell dinner to toast Jess Roth’s return to the USA.
Most of all, we celebrate the joy of meeting every Tuesday at the Botanic Gardens, ready for the next run. Here's to the runners and the journey we share!
Keri is a linguist and teaches writing at Nanyang Technological University. When she’s not running with the AWA Running Group, Keri carries out research on food, language, and culture. To see her publications, go to kerimatwick.com | |
